May 5th marked the 200th Anniversary of Karl Marx's birth, and in spite of inspiring a wide variety of political movements that claimed millions of lives and caused countless human rights abuses, Marx continues to be revered among many intellectuals and artists. In a recent Mises Wire article, Ryan McMaken takes a closer look at the “accomplishments” of “real socialism”.
This is an article worth a quiet read. It’s baffling and somewhat sobering that, after all the documented and proven damage the ideas of Karl Marx have resulted in over the past 200 years, there are still people that wish to follow his blueprint.
One such example can be seen in Raoul Peck's new film The Young Karl Marx which portrays Marx as a principled radical with a laudable thirst for justice.
